Drama in The Grove after mystery explosion

A MYSTERIOUS explosion in the woods saw police and paramedics scramble to Ickenham yesterday (Thursday).

Bomb disposal experts and an armed response team were also called to The Grove, Ickenham, and the road was cordoned off until past 6.30pm.

The explosion took place just before 2.30pm and a man was treated for serious head injuries and taken to Charing Cross Hospital, where his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Witness Jenny Moffatt, said: "The man crawled out of the woods, I heard a most peculiar explosion.

"He had a CO2 canister against a tree and ignited it, the police cut his shirt off him, they were obviously checking for explosives."

Police confirmed today they were not treating the incident as terrorism related.
