Stop and Shop scheme nears fruition
TRADERS who have campaigned for better access to their shops are one step closer to seeing their 'Stop and Shop' parking scheme being implemented.
The shops in Ickenham had joined together with the Residents Association to campaign for new regulations, which would boost trade and free up space in the area to stop people parking there all day.
After hearing three petitions, Hillingdon Council have agreed to carry out a statutory consultation, to fine tune the plans.
The proposed operational times will be from 8am to 6.30pm Monday to Saturday, with the area affected including Ickenham Road, and the shopping parade on Glebe Avenue and Long Lane.
Numerous meetings have been carried out between traders, residents, and ward councillors to develop a scheme that would work fluently with the current road layout, and cause no problems elsewhere.
The plans are part of a long term aim of the Residents Association to introduce a 20mph speed limit to the village centre.
Once the official consultation has been completed, the plans will be put before councillors who will make a decision whether to allow or reject.

the proposed etcholon parking along by the shops in ickenham appears to be dangerouse, the reason being
if you drive forwards into the space and after your shopping you have to put items in the boot it means that you are standing in the road and secondly you then have to reverse into oncoming traffic sometimes blindly, a practice not recomended
Echelon parking is not dangerous if used correctly. Driving in to an echelon space is much safer than backing into an echelon space. This system has been used in Canada for the past thirty years to my knowledge without criticism about being unsafe.
As a cyclist I would much prefer to pass a vehicle parked nose first in and echelon bay than pass vehicles illegally double parked as they do today.
