MP visits Ickenham home residents

RESIDENTS living in sheltered housing in Ickenham have been left feeling positive following their first meeting with their MP.

John Randall, MP for Uxbridge (Con), visited elderly residents in Court House, Court Road, Ickenham.

They discussed their concerns which include a lack of access to dental practices, and showed Mr Randall around their accommodation.

Derek Hughes, chair of trustees at Court House, said: "Residents enjoyed Mr Randall's company and were impressed by the interest he took in them."

The sheltered house is provided by Abbeyfield who provide accommodation for up to eight older people suffering from loneliness and looking to maintain their independence.

Mr Randall attended following an invitation from the residents living there.

A FUNDRAISER is holding an Ickenham charity auction to raise cash for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Debbie Evans, 49, of Clovelly Avenue, Ickenham, has organised the auction at the Titchenham Inn in Swakeleys Road, Ickenham, for 8pm on Saturday, November 22.

Ms Evans is asking generous residents to donate money ahead of a trek she funded and plans to do in March through Thailand for the charity.

She said: "The pub has supported me by holding it there and all the shops in Ickenham have given things to auction."

Lots up for grabs include Chelsea Champion League football tickets, a guitar, tickets for a production of High School Musical and a power shower.

There is a 50p charge to bid.

AN ELDERLY woman has been left badly shaken after being robbed and knocked to the ground in Ickenham.

Police dog units and a helicopter attended the scene in at Boniface Road, Ickenham, at 3.45pm on Wednesday, November 12 after being called to the scene.

The 80 year-old woman had been shopping in Uxbridge and got the tube to Ickenham when her bag was snatched, causing her to fall.

She had her bag taken by two youths as she walked down the alleyway opposite the Wetherspoons pub, leading from Swakeley's Road to Boniface Road.

The men ran off down Swakeley's Road and are believed to have come through the alley from Boniface Road.

Paramedics were called to the scene and treated the woman for facial injuries while police helicopters scoured the area for signs of her attackers.

PC Jon Williams from the robbery unit in Hillingdon said: "This was a cowardly incident and has left this lady shocked and upset and we are keen to trace the suspects."

There were two suspects, one is mixed race, 5ft 10" and aged 25-30 and the second is white, 6ft 2" and aged between 20-30.

Police have arrested a 29 year-old man and enquries are currently ongoing.

FANS of the theatre looking to beat the credit crunch can get five musicals for the price of one in Ickenham from November 12-15.

Amateur group 'Players 2' will perform the 'Musical of Musicals' at the Compass Theatre, Glebe Avenue, Ickenham from Wednesday through to Saturday.

The musical offers five different styles from Andrew Lloyd Webber to Rogers and Hammerstein and everything in between, combining to fill a laughter filled show.
