THE history of an ancient tree which marked parish boundaries has been preserved after Ickenham residents helped raise £700 to restore its plaque.
The engraved stone stands in front of the 150 year old tree which has grown in the place of an oak tree dating back to medieval times, believed to mark the borders between Ickenham, Hillingdon and Harefield.
The unveiling took place in Swakeleys Road, Ickenham.
David Eddington, chairman of the Ickenham Festival, who helped raise the money, said: "The engraving on the plaque had faded and it didn't mean anything unless it could be read."
The members of the Ickenham Neighbourhood Watch also provided some of the money needed to restore the plaque.
The original plaque was made in 1950 by WSTry building company of Cowley, who built nearby Highfield Drive.
